I have been doing some further thinking, based on what I read in Michael Talbot’s “The Holographic Universe”.
Some interesting images and thoughts came to me that also related to when I was reading the “Kybalion” by the Three Initiates. It had to do with the Hermetic Principle on Cause and Effect. Some ascribe this to being the “Karmic Laws”, even though there is some misinterpretation of Karma in many of today’s groups. I would like to provide a little bit of a different insight into the nature of Cause and Effect.
I ) Causes and their Effects do interrelate with each other and CAN also operate in the reverse:
In other words, there are cases where the Cause(s) and Effect(s) can affect each other in the reverse order, IE: A cause in one instance can become the effect of the action of the other, which was its effect and, instead, become its causor. This can be considered as a “mirroring” of the Cause-and-Effect instance(s), as the cause(s) and effect(s) may “change places” with each other based on the particular situation or “need”.
II ) Causes and Effects are not necessarily singular and purely linear:
Each “cause” can possibly have multiple influences or multiple “effects”. Just as each “effect” can have multiple contributing “causes”. Much like any action on a spider’s web, can be felt, whether greatly or slightly, in more than one place upon its web – even, at the same instant. Anyone with a background in mathematics would be amazed at how “irrational” Nature can be. Nature works very heavily with irrational numbers and ratios; Which show up in the many calculations of arcs, spirals, and other circular “events”.
III ) Also, Nature likes circles, spirals, and “non-linearity”. Therefore, causes and effects can easily rebound and cycle; as per the first two observations I stated above:
What this says, is that certain conditions may have it that one or more causes may feed into themselves through their one or more effects. I like to think of this as a “feedback loop”; something that the nature of spirals and cycles often work by. Now whether a particular “spiral” results in an increase or decrease in strength and energy is another matter. If such a “feedback” results in the same level of energy and strength being repeated over and over again, then you may have what results in a steady cycle – of this set of causes and effects!
IV ) Causes and their resulting effects that feedback upon each other can also cause “ripple effects”:
The analogy and actual demonstration of tossing a stone into a quiet, placid body of water (whether at a pond, or just a home swimming pool) and its resulting ripples comes to mind. Now, if one were to toss more than one stone, perhaps even at slightly delayed intervals, one would see the action of the ripples from each of the landed stones (the “causes” or “events”) as they collide with each other. These colliding ripples may either cancel some of their energies out, OR they may create some interesting new ripples. These collision points can be referred to as “interference points”.
V ) Interference points as resulting complex events due to multiple influences and/or other contributing causes and/or effects:
When two or more event “ripples” collide, a new event may occur at that point. Some believe that major events of such great magnitude and power are only possible with the help of multiple contributing causes and effects, because of the amount of energy contributed multiplies exponentially. So, if there are more powerful influences that contribute even a tiny amount of additional energy towards the “intended” effect, the end effect’s energy will be far greater by magnitudes! (This is something to think about when planning the execution of another magical working, etc.)
This also why a small group of fairly new practitioners may see considerable effects, if they are all focused on the same intention, to their working more so than one solitary who may only practice his/her art occasionally. This may also explain why some workings may be best done in a group ritual, rather than as a solitary if that solitary witch does not have much extensive practice in workings by him/herself?!?
VI ) Nature is all about causes and effects:
Right there is the ultimate truth about the power and workings of Nature. We see these causes and their related effects around us all the time. All things that occur are because of Nature’s causes and effects; This highlights the “Natural Law” at its most basic level. Natural Law does not operate on only one or two “planes” at a time. Nature is very “Holographic” and operates on ALL planes at the same time. Therefore, some of the most powerful workings, coming from some of the most learned in the Arts of magic and Nature, know to use the powers of Nature to their advantage and to “super-power” their workings.
Those who try to work against the powers of Nature, are simply working out of balance with Nature and will probably fail miserably. Nature is far more powerful than any of us alone! Therefore, it makes the most sense to work alongside that Natural power, and in balance with Nature, when deciding to do a working. The ancient shamanic wise-folk knew of this many thousands of years ago.
A final note:
As per what I have written here, please consider carefully the idea of limiting the effects of your spells. If some spells can continue on by themselves, all due to the right kinds of influences and energies being present to keep powering them, you may have a difficult time in determining where and how to end an errant spell. THIS IS WHY, in some groups, it said that once an intention is powered up and released into the open Cosmos, it can not (I like to say: “may not”) be recalled! So please consider how to “tie up” a spell enough so that it only does what it is intended to do, and then dissipate or cease altogether.
